Tim Thielmann

Tim joined Devlin Gailus as an articled student in April 2009 and was called to the British Columbia bar in September 2009.

Tim's aboriginal law practice focuses largely on negotiation and litigation concerning Aboriginal and Treaty rights, and the Crown's duty to consult. Tim appeared in West Moberly First Nations v. British Columbia (Chief Inspector of Mines), 2010 BCSC 359, and has written on consultation and species at risk, aboriginal forestry opportunities, and land-claim overlaps. Tim also advises First Nations on a wide range of issues including taxation, corporate structuring, commercial transactions, reserve land management, estates, labour and employment, economic benefits agreements, and treaty land entitlement claims.

Tim is an ardent advocate for social justice and environmental sustainability. His public interest environmental law practice has targeted issues such as strategic land use planning, run-of-river power regulation, health and safety concerns with mining and oil and gas development, species at risk, and urban sprawl.

Tim served for four years on the Board of Directors for the University of Victoria's Environmental Law Centre. He has been an executive member of the National and Vancouver Island branches of the Canadian Bar Association (Aboriginal Law Section). Tim has Bachelor's Degrees in Law (University of Victoria), Philosophy (University of Lethbridge) and Theology (Prairie Bible College).
